Venturing Training

The recommended training path for all adult Venturing leaders includes the following:

New Leader Essentials--- Offered at least once annually by each of the Council's 11 Districts for all new leaders, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing.  This orients new leaders for the structure and most basic policies of the Boy Scouts of America.  The class requires about 1 Ĺ hours.  Click here for more information.

Venturing Leader Specific Training-- This course gives an overview of the Venturing program, the safety rules, the organizational structure and the advancement program.  This course has been offered by some Districts in the Council and will be offered by the Council Venturing Committee in various locations during the year.  The Venturing Committee will even come to your regular meeting place to conduct the training for your adults if you will commit to having at least six parents participate. Outdoor Skills Training-- This is the new outdoor training program for all adult Boy Scout and Venturing leaders.  Comparable skills have been included in the former Scoutmastership Fundamentals Training and Boy Scout Wood Badge Program.  Click here for more information.

Powder Horn-- Powder Horn is an exciting training opportunity designed to present local resource individuals in all areas of high adventure covered by the Venture programís Ranger award, including: First Aid, Communications, Cooking, Emergency Preparedness, Land navigation, Leave No Trace camping, Wilderness Survival, Conservation, Backpacking, Cave Exploring, Cycling/Mountain Biking, Ecology, Equestrian, Fishing, Hunting, Lifesaver, Mountaineering, Outdoor Living History, Physical Fitness, Plants and Wildlife, Project COPE, Scuba, Shooting Sports, Watercraft, and Winter Sports. The program is a hands-on experience. The program will also help leaders in working with teens and how to address issues related to co-ed Venture crews.  This course will be held in Spring, 2003 at Blass Scout Reservation.  The course will consist of two three-day weekends.  Click here for more information.

21st Century Wood Badge-- The new Wood Badge Course is a basic leadership skills course and is open to all adult Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing leaders.  The course combines aspects of the former Boy Scout Wood Badge and the Cub Scout Leader Trainer Wood Badge Courses and utilizes modern technology in a classroom setting.  The next course will be held September 13-15, 2002 and October 4-6, 2002.  Registration is currently open, but the course has a limited participation, so register as soon as possible.  Click here for more information.
